About
A quieter place to write.
Try Online Notepad is a small, independent project built around one idea: a notepad should open instantly, save your work, and then get out of the way. No account. No cloud. No reason to wonder where your words went.
Why it exists
Note-taking got complicated.
Most online notepads start simple and then ask for more: an account, a workspace, a subscription, a browser extension, permission to send your notes to the cloud. Somewhere along the way, the blank page became a product surface.
We wanted the opposite. A page that feels like the default text editor that used to ship with a computer: immediate, dependable, and indifferent to whether you come back. The modern additions — autosave, folders, version history, voice typing — are there to remove friction, not to collect data.
The result is local-first. Your notes are stored in this browser. Sharing works by encoding the note into the link itself, so even sending a note does not require a database. You can export everything at any time and leave without a deletion request.
It is not trying to be a project management suite. It is trying to be the fastest way to write something down and know it will still be there tomorrow.
Principles
Four rules we keep coming back to.
Your words stay yours
Notes are saved in your browser, not on our servers. There is no account, no sync, and no copy of your writing sitting in a database waiting to be breached.
The page should open fast
A notepad is a place to think, not a dashboard to configure. The app loads as a static page, works offline after the first visit, and keeps the editor in front of you.
Nothing is trapped
Export to plain text, Markdown, HTML, PDF, Word-compatible files, or a full JSON backup. If you want to leave, leaving should take one click.
Features earn their place
Folders, pins, versions, voice typing, and a command palette are here because they make writing easier. There are no engagement loops, streaks, or notifications.
How it works
One page. No setup.
Open
The notepad is a static page. There is no sign-up screen, onboarding flow, or cookie banner.
Write
The editor saves to local storage every second. Use folders, pins, and colors when you need them.
Return
Close the tab and come back later. Your notes, layout, and active note are waiting.
Share or export
Send a note inside a link, or download it as a file. Both work without an account.
