Privacy
Your notes stay in your browser.
This page describes what happens to your data in plain language. The short version: notes are saved on your device, there is no account, and we do not receive your writing. The longer version covers the details and the exceptions.

Notes and settings
Your notes, folders, colors, pinned state, version history, and preferences are stored in your browser's localStorage under keys beginning with ton.. This data stays on the device and browser profile you are using. It is not transmitted to us.
Because the data is local, clearing your browser's site data will delete it. Private browsing windows usually clear storage when they close. Export a backup from the notepad before clearing browser data or switching devices.
No account, no profile
There is no sign-up, login, email collection, or user profile. We do not know who you are, and we cannot associate a note with a person.
No analytics, ads, or tracking cookies
The site does not load third-party analytics, advertising, session recording, or heat-mapping scripts. The only third-party script is the optional Google Translate described below, and it loads only if you ask for it. It does not set cookies for tracking. Fonts are self-hosted, so no font requests are sent to a third party.
Optional Google Translate
The language menu offers “More languages”, powered by Google Translate, for languages we have not translated ourselves. Nothing is loaded from Google unless you choose that option. When you do, Google’s translation script loads, the text of the page you are viewing is sent to Google to be translated, and Google sets a googtrans cookie to remember your language. Your notes are marked as not translatable, so their contents are never sent. Choose “Show original” in the language menu to stop translating and clear that cookie.
Hosting and standard server logs
Like most websites, our hosting provider may process standard request information such as your IP address, browser type, requested URL, and timestamp in order to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Those logs are generated by the web server, not by the notepad. They do not contain the contents of your notes.
Voice typing
Voice typing uses the Web Speech API built into your browser. The audio is handled by the browser's speech service, which may process it locally or remotely depending on the browser. Try Online Notepad does not receive or store audio. The resulting text is saved in your browser like any other note. Check your browser vendor's privacy policy if you plan to dictate sensitive information.
Share links
Private share links encode the note into the part of the URL after the #symbol. Browsers do not send that part to the server. The note is compressed and encoded, not encrypted: anyone who has the link can decode and read it. Treat a share link like a sealed envelope, not a safe. Do not share passwords, keys, or confidential documents this way.
Offline support
The site uses a service worker to cache the app shell so the notepad can open offline. The cache contains the pages, styles, scripts, fonts, and icons needed to run the app. It does not upload or contain a server-side copy of your notes; those remain in local storage.
Exports and backups
When you export a note or a full backup, the file is created in your browser and downloaded to your device. We do not receive a copy. You are responsible for where that file is saved or synced afterward.
Children's privacy
The site does not require an account and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because there is no server-side note storage, there is no profile to delete.
Changes to this policy
If the way the site handles data changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change. Material changes will be described in plain language, not buried in a changelog.
